The 2019 FIDI Conference is already gearing up to be one of the best ever. Over the next few issues we’ll be revealing more details of an event that is a must-attend for everyone in the FIDI community. However, for now, we turn the spotlight on host city Amsterdam, and the Conference location, NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky. You’ll also find a brief taster of some of the exciting events planned.
The host city: Amsterdam
Amsterdam is not just another city – it is the 2019 FIDI Conference host city. It is a cultural hub that boasts a long and colourful history, while still influencing the modern world in a way that only a few cities have been able to accomplish. Throughout time, Amsterdam has attracted diverse cultures and fascinating people from various backgrounds: from arts to science and from philosophy to architecture. Its name is a byword for innovation, progression and diversity.
From humble beginnings as a 13th century fishing village to its current role as a major hub for business and tourism, Amsterdam has had a strong tradition as a centre of culture and commerce. With its canals, worldfamous museums and historical sights, Amsterdam is one of the most romantic and beautiful cities in Europe, while also being a city of tolerance and diversity. No wonder it is one of the world’s leading travel destinations, attracting almost five million international visitors each year.
Amsterdam’s appeal lies in its rich heritage, diverse and creative culture, commercial dynamism and high quality of life. Ultimately, the city’s strongest asset is its people: the people who live there; the people who work there; the people who study there; and the people who visit. The city is also easy to get around – particularly by bicycle. As a Conference delegate, you will have the opportunity to hire a bike in order to enjoy the most authentic Amsterdam experience – watch out for more details via FIDI shortly.
The Conference hotel: NH Grand Krasnapolsky
A magnificent, historic building with an exceptional location in the heart of the city, the NH Collection Amsterdam Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky dates back to 1855. Situated on the main square with spectacular views of the Royal Palace, the FIDI Conference hotel is not short of elegance, class and charm. Its 150-year history began when its founder, Adolph Wilhelm Krasnapolsky, first opened a coffee house on the site. The hotel wears its history proudly. Next to every room door is a copperplate with an image from the old days to take you back in time – which one will you get?
Every one of the hotel’s 451 spacious rooms will be FIDI’s during the Conference – yes, FIDI has a full buy-out of the hotel. Once checked in, you can enjoy features like air conditioning, Nespresso machines, flat screen TVs, walk-in showers and much more. The hotel even has apartments, with views over the canal, for those attendees planning to bring their families.
Three dining experiences will be on offer: a 3* Michelin Chef-run restaurant, the White Room; the Grand Café Krasnapolsky and The Tailor Bar. The latter two are new this year, and are open to sponsorship during the Conference. With the hotel being exclusive to FIDI for the duration of the Conference, these establishments will be available to delegates to use for meetings, snacks or a catch-up over a drink before the evening entertainment begins. Don’t miss out on the chance to get your company name behind the Conference’s social hot spots: email firstname.lastname@example.org to register your interest.
What else to expect at the 2019 FIDI Conference
As with previous FIDI Conferences, there will be a programme packed with business sessions, workshops, sporting activities and social events. The official Conference opening will take place just across the road at the famous Beurs van Berlage, which is the city’s former stock exchange. This venue is full of glamour and charm – certainly not to be missed.
The 2019 Conference golf tournament and beginners’ clinic will take place at ‘The Dutch’ course, home to top European Tour event the KLM Open. This is certain to be a spectacular day for FIDI golfers of all abilities. A wide range of tours will keep everyone active, from a visit to Anne Frank’s house to a Duck Trail expedition. There will also be a day trip to Keukenhof, known as the Garden of Europe, offering an opportunity to see the famous tulip fields in all their glory. New and noteworthy for 2019 is the London to Amsterdam Cycle Challenge – turn to page 37 for more details on this exciting event in support of Operation Smile Honduras.
Another important change is that the legendary FIDI 39 Club Party will now take place on Saturday evening (30 March) – so make sure you arrive in Amsterdam on Saturday afternoon to start your Conference the right way.
The FIDI Board and Office are working hard to make Amsterdam 2019 the moving industry event of the year; and one not to be missed. Shortly, the Conference team will be launching a new, FIDI-developed registration, conference website and app to make the process of booking a place in Amsterdam as straightforward as possible.
There will be many more details on all the Conference activities in future issues of FIDI Focus – stay tuned!
